The Fab 40’s is a group of seven stylish fashion bloggers from around the globe. Each month we choose a different theme and invite a fellow forties guest blogger to join us. This group’s goal is to take on style trends and show how we each interpret and incorporate them into our own lives. With eight widely varied views, you are certain to find something that speaks to you each month and encourages you to continue having fun with fashion over 40.
Happiest day after Christmas! I hope all of your holiday wishes came true and you enjoyed time with family and friends.
Welcome to the final edition of The Fab 40’s for 2016! I am really happy this month was mine to select the style theme and co-host, as December is my birthday month. I chose Mad for Plaid for the theme because it suits the holiday season well, and because it is a favorite print of mine. As I do tend to dress on the preppy side, my wardrobe is peppered with plaid. This once again made it difficult for me to decide what to wear this month. I finally decided on this blue plaid shirt because it has a beautiful bit of green in it that pairs perfectly with my full Kelly green skirt. I always enjoy mixing it up and making unexpected choices, so this combination was a win for me. I also appreciated the festive feel to this look and wore it to our office cookie exchange, where it received so many compliments.
Details: Denim Jacket – NY&Co.| Plaid Shirt – Old Navy| Skirt – Shein| Shoes – Calvin Klein| Necklace – c/o Happiness Boutique| Earrings – NY&Co.| Bag – Kate Spade “Small Harmony Tote”
Alison – Get Your Pretty On
Details: Sweater = Loft| Plaid Shirt – Target| Velvet Pants – Loft| Necklace – Stella and Dot| Ankle Boots – Target| Leopard Clutch – Wink & Winn
I invited Alison to be this month’s co-host and was so stinkin’ excited when she agreed! I have followed her blog Get Your Pretty On since I very first discovered fashion blogs. I love how she and her team provide regular style challenges with capsule wardrobes to help women learn how to dress with confidence.
I thought it was fun we both happened to select plaid shirts for this month’s theme, as well as accenting our plaid with animal print. Her velvet pants and Fabulous statement necklace make this look a knockout!
Ann – Kremb de la Kremb
Details: Earrings – Hong Kong market| Top – J Crew| Bracelet – Boho Betty| Cardigan & Tote – Borrowed| Skirt & Tote – Forever 21| Sparkle Booties – Zara| Blue Eyeliner – H&M
Ann is looking quite festive in her reversed plaid ensemble! The striped tote and sequined booties complete her look fabulously, and the background couldn’t be more perfect.
Diane – Fashion on the 4th Floor
Details: Jacket & Pants – Express| Top – Zara| Flats – Express| Brooch – Express
As always, Diane is giving us cool and chic with her plaid suit and silver loafers. The feminine flair in her romantic blouse is the perfect foil to this tailored look. Pretty colors and brooch, too!
Mary – Curly Birdie Chirps
Details: Skirt – Old Navy | Top – The Limited| Shoes – Von Maur| Bag – H&M
Mary is always the epitome of femininity and knows how to accent her curves. Beautiful color palette, velvet Mary Janes, bow blouse, and plaid midi skirt make this such a gorgeous outfit.
Samantha – Fake Fabulous
Details: Skirt – Vintage| Top – Topshop| Cover-Up – Old| Obi – Tkmax| Shoes – Boden| Bag – Fiorelli| Necklace – V&A Museum| Tights – Gerbe| Earrings – Matalan
Samantha went with a mix of gorgeous hues and a houndstooth skirt, which may or may not fall under the plaid family, but it is certainly close enough for us. Speaking of plaid, as Sam lives in Scotland, she refers to it as tartan and was so cute trying to figure out how to pronounce plaid. Also, every time I see her style this obi, it makes me want to add one to my own wardrobe.
Sheela – Sheela Writes
Details: Plaid Capelet – Thrifted| Bowie Sweatshirt – Thrifted| Leather Culottes & Beret – Forever 21| Spiked Booties – Make Me Chic| Detective Trench Bag – Gaultier| Sunnies & Jewelry – Poshmark
Only Sheela would think to mix a plaid capelet with a Bowie sweatshirt, leather culottes, spiked booties, a beret and walk around completely owning it, all the while making me wish I could be so creative and confident.
Veronica – Cid Style File
Details: Jeans, Shirt & Booties – Old Navy| Cardigan – City Chic| Tassel Scarf – Unbranded
Vero is showing her casual and cool take on plaid with a variety of pattern mixes, distressed jeans and booties. Her red and white plaid shirt and striped, tasseled scarf just say “Christmas”!
So there you have it, the final Fab 40’s post of 2016! Are you as Mad about Plaid as I am? I would love to hear what you think about this month’s theme and looks. I am already looking forward to seeing what Mary has in store for us next month.
