So here I am again talking about my hair… You may have noticed something a bit different in the photo above with the color. Well, over the past couple of years all of the color choices I have made have certainly been fun and a definite step away from my natural, almost black hair. My bright red, verging on the edge of bright pink at times, has been my favorite. I have to admit I love the attention it has brought me and how it was nice to be stopped by complete strangers with compliments on the regular. However, all of the chemicals and bleaching had also taken their toll, which isn’t the easiest to control when you are also trying to grow it out and hope to maintain some semblance of healthy hair.
Knowing I still wanted to have red hair, I began to do research on how I could achieve it in a more natural and healthy manner. So after much reading, I chose to color my hair with henna this weekend. Henna is an organic plant based alternative to chemical dyes and penetrates the shafts of your hair, and doesn’t wash out. Let me tell y’all, this was a Process! It took some work and patience, but I felt it was worth it to restore health to my hair and still be able to achieve a beautiful red.
This isn’t a sponsored post in any way, (although if it were, I would still be completely honest about my opinions) I just wanted to share my own personal journey with my hair, because we have undoubtedly been at odds with one another throughout our entire lives. It says curly, and I say straight. It says fine and thin, and I say give me volume! It says darkest brown possible, and I cry I want silver, blonde, platinum, auburn, true red, and bright pink. Perhaps I should write a post about that in the future. Thoughts?
