The Fab 40’s is a group of seven stylish fashion bloggers from around the globe. Each month we choose a different theme and invite a guest blogger who is also in their forties to join us. This group’s goal is to take on style trends and show how we each interpret and incorporate them into our own lives. With eight widely varied views, you are certain to find something that speaks to you each month and encourages you to continue to have fun with fashion after 40.
So the look you are seeing today is nothing like I originally planned. A key component to my original look did not arrive in time, which left me scrambling right at our deadline. After doing some traditional shopping and finding nothing that fit the bill, I tried a local thrift store and saw this crochet maxi skirt. Even though it was dirt brown at the time I knew it was something I could work with. My Ariel quickly changed from sophisticated and sassy to a boho beach babe. Once I changed direction to boho I picked up a simple tank and planned out my DIY’s. The tank and skirt underwent color changes and I created a flower crown to top off my look. Not only is the flower crown a boho touch, but it is also a nod to the original story as the grandmother placed a crown of lilies on each granddaughter’s head the evening of their 16th birthday when they were each allowed to go to the surface of the ocean for the first time.
Shelbee – Shelbee On the Edge
Details: Shirt & Heels – Burlington Coat Factory| Skirt – Kohls| Stockings – New Chic| Corset – Adore Me| Earrings & Clutch – Poshmark| Belt – Cato Fashions
A huge welcome to this month’s guest blogger, Shelbee! She is channeling her inner Merida as her Disney princess. I am adoring the gold corset underneath her plaid shirt and the fishnet tights with those Amazing shoes. The fur bag is such a clever nod to Merida’s mother and brothers being transformed to bears in the story!
Ann – Kremb de la Kremb
Details: Sunnies – ASOS | Earrings – Jardine’s Bazaar| Dress – Kate Spade| Cape – Custom made in Shanghai| Gloves & Clutch – Vintage| Fishnets – Jardine’s Bazaar| Slip-Ons – Cotton On
Instead of a Disney princess, Ann is channeling a modern day Princess Stephanie of Monaco. She looks so beautiful and elegant in her gorgeous dress, cape, and gloves, and then threw in a bit of rebellious sass with her fishnets and sneakers.
Diane – Fashion on the 4th Floor
Diane also chose to not go the Disney route, but instead selected a television character she identified with growing up who experienced a princess fairy tale moment on an episode, Jo from The Facts of Life. Diane incorporated her own tomboy charm with the denim and camo combined with her feminine pleated maxi skirt and her signature tennies.
Mary – Curly Birdie Chirps
Details:Dress Charlotte Russe| Jeans – William Rast| Bag – Target| Boots – Jessica Simpson| Necklace – Walmart
Mary selected Pocahontas as her Disney princess, as she has a Native American heritage. I seriously can see a modern day Pocahontas in this look. The muted colors, fabulous print, fringed accessories and touch of turquoise are a perfect combination. you mastered this month’s theme, Mary!
Samantha – Fake Fabulous
Details: Jacket – Monsoon| Top – Topshop| Jeans – Gap| Tights – Zohara| Bag – Vintage| Shoes – Aldo| Glasses – Primark| Earrings – Vintage| Jumper – Emreco
Sheela – Sheela Writes
Details: Red Rose Gown – Willow & Clay| Lipstick – MAC “Lady Danger”
Sheela selected Belle as her inspiration, which is so fitting with Beauty and the Beast’s recent release. I know Sheela and her daughter Eve have been anxiously awaiting this theatrical production for quite some time now, and I am glad this theme coincided with it. The stunning red rose dress is a gorgeous and subtle nod to Belle and Sheela certainly looks like a beautiful princess.
Veronica – Cid Style File
Veronica also chose Pocahontas as her inspiration for this fun theme. I love her beautiful boho vibe and the Native American inspired jewelry she chose as accessories. She looks so cool, easy, breezy and ready for spring.
This month’s theme was a fun one to step outside my comfort zone and try something different. Although, without this pretty flower crown, I can certainly still see myself wearing this really casual look on weekends all spring and summer long. Of all the Disney princesses which is your favorite or do you most identify with?
