Due to weather conditions/a week of rain, I haven’t been able to get out and take blog photos. So today will be a life lately post, which is something I haven’t done in awhile.
Reading – Y’all, I am seriously loving Overdrive. I have listened to so many books this summer and have become a huge fan of Reese Witherspoon’s book club. Here is a quick list of a few favorites.
From Amazon- “With courage, grace, and powerful insight, bestselling author Kristin Hannah captures the epic panorama of World War II and illuminates an intimate part of history seldom seen: the women’s war. The Nightingale tells the stories of two sisters, separated by years and experience, by ideals, passion and circumstance, each embarking on her own dangerous path toward survival, love, and freedom in German-occupied, war-torn France―a heartbreakingly beautiful novel that celebrates the resilience of the human spirit and the durability of women. It is a novel for everyone, a novel for a lifetime.”
I Loved this book and would highly recommend it. Learning more about the war and how it affected the families in France, and Europe, in general, gave me a greater insight into the hardships they suffered. Even though this was fiction, it did touch me and make me consider all of the trauma families endured during this time in history.
From Amazon – “Big Little Lies is a brilliant take on ex-husbands and second wives, mothers and daughters, schoolyard scandal, and the dangerous little lies we tell ourselves just to survive.”
I have already shared I really enjoyed this HBO series, but I have to say I enjoyed the book even more. The narrator was Australian and I enjoyed hearing the accent, and the character Madeline is even more of a delight in the novel. I didn’t love the direction the HBO series took with her character, particularly throwing in an affair. While I understand they wanted more drama for a second season, it just changes her raw wholeness for me.
From Amazon – “Evelyn has been married to her husband for forty years, but their son’s messy divorce has put them at rare odds; James, a beleaguered paramedic, has spent most of his marriage haunted by his wife’s family’s expectations; Delphine has thrown caution to the wind and left a peaceful French life for an exciting but rocky romance in America; and Kate, partnered with Dan for a decade, has seen every kind of wedding and has vowed never, ever, to have one of her own. As the stories connect to each other and to Frances’s legacy in surprising ways, The Engagements explores the complicated ins and outs of relationships, then, now, and forever.”
Because each chapter tells a story about a different person it took me a bit to get into this one. Just when I would become intrigued about one person, the next chapter would introduce me to someone else and their story. There are five different tales going on and once things began proceeding it didn’t feel as disjointed as in the beginning.
From Amazon – “After getting a note demanding his presence, Federal Agent Aaron Falk arrives in his hometown for the first time in decades to attend the funeral of his best friend, Luke. Twenty years ago when Falk was accused of murder, Luke was his alibi. Falk and his father fled under a cloud of suspicion, saved from prosecution only because of Luke’s steadfast claim that the boys had been together at the time of the crime. But now more than one person knows they didn’t tell the truth back then, and Luke is dead.”
This was a really good mystery and I enjoyed the different twists along the way. Definitely a page turner! I do not often listen to books with a male lead character, but I enjoyed getting outside my box with this one. Another Australian narrator, but this time around it was a man. Again, I loved the accent!
Eating – Still keeping up with with clean eating for the most part. I usually spend a couple of hours each Sunday doing meal prep for the week, which keeps me on track. I find if I skip this then my entire week is thrown off, making it far easier to grab something processed out of convenience. Yuck. Oh, and I am all about squeezing in all the extra veggies I can in every meal! Here are a few recent favorites.
Breakfast bowl – sauteed red onions and cauliflower rice topped with fried eggs and fresh pico, plus sugar free bacon. This breakfast starts my day off right!
Lunch – zoodles, baby spinach, grape tomatoes, and grilled chicken tossed with homemade pesto. Obsessed!
Dinner – Salmon topped with a grilled pineapple salsa, baked sweet potato fries, and cauliflower rice. I Love cauliflower rice and find it much tastier than traditional rice.
Workout – I have been attending Burn Boot Camp classes for the last few weeks and positively love it. I always feel as though I am about to die by the end, but in a good way. I love the atmosphere of encouragement it fosters. Every class you are asked to meet someone new and throughout the 45 minutes we pass along high fives and positive words for getting through sets. Every class is completely different and each week is all new. I look forward to seeing the schedule post on the weekends. Here is this weeks workouts.
I try to take a selfie after each workout because of my on-line accountability group. Most days my arms are shaking so much it’s hard to get a clear shot.
Instagram Favorites – If you follow me on Instagram you may have already seen the following. Just thought I would share a few of my favorites I recently posted. By the way, when I was without my phone I couldn’t post to IG and now I am having a hard time getting back into the swing again.
I adore this photo of these two sweethearts! We had a very impromptu photo session and this one of Spencer and Bear is my favorite.
I was pleased with this cute photo of of my Converse collection. I would like to add some yellow ones next, I think.
I like to think outside the box when it comes to storage solutions, and this shadow box is not only functional, but also pretty!
That’s it for now. I will be back with the fashion next week.
I am looking for Fabulous Friday Co-Hosts! It’s a great way to have your blog featured and be introduced to a new audience. If you are interested just send me a quick line ∼ firstname.lastname@example.org.
Last week’s most clicked link was from Alison of Get Your Pretty On. So much style inspiration for our olive jeans this fall!
Just behind Alison was Nailil of Thirty Minus One as she shared how to style our kimonos for summer and fall.
