Happy Halloween! Here we are on one of my favorite days of the year and I am excited to show my latest DIY costume. In the weeks prior to today, I was considering what I should be this year. I have shared in the past Mina always sat out with me and we handed out candy to trick or treaters together. She was always a big hit with the children and she loved the attention. I thought this would most likely be our last year sharing this tradition, and as everyone always remarked she looked like a little fox, I thought we would match this time around. So instead of matching as I had originally planned, I suppose my look has now transitioned to being in honor of my little foxy lady.
As I mentioned in Friday’s post, I always shop my closet to see what fits my theme. I knew I didn’t want to go with a typical furry fox look you might find in a costume shop, but something with decided more style and panache. Since I went red a couple of years ago I have steadily added more and more burnt oranges to my wardrobe, which came in handy for this look. My brown velvet blazer and a white button-up shirt were perfect for the dapper look I wanted to achieve. I tied one of my thin scarves into a loose Windsor knot. The colors worked wonderfully. I had every intention of making my own ears and tail, but with everything that went on last week, I just wasn’t feeling terribly crafty. Instead, I picked some up at Halloween Express and at the end of the day I was just fine with it. Black gloves and boots worked for my “paws” perfectly.
The final and most important step was the makeup. I primarily used items already in my makeup bag, including a creamy white eyeshadow for the bottom part of my face. I did pick up a darker contouring kit with a wonderful creamy bronzer that was the perfect coppery color for the top half of my face. Black eyeshadow was used for my eye “mask” and nose. After I was happy with the results I dusted everything with a loose translucent powder to set it.
